After missing all of the Legends races this season to date, we were back on track at the Fall Classic at Midvale Speedway. Legends racer Dave Spotton, and Jeff Gibeault were on hand to help on the car. Dave lost a motor a couple of weeks ago at Midvale and I would like to thank Dave for the loan of his Midvale gears. Thanks to Jeff, too, for all his help on the car, too. My wife, Rebecca, our daughters Hannah and Lauren, and my mother-in-law Linda came to the races as well. It was great having them in the pits.
After losing the brakes during the first hot lap session, several Legends racers descended on our car, figured out the problem. and got the car ready before the next hot lap session began. Many thanks to Dennis Knox, Randy Burns, who identified the issue, and to Dave Spotton, who made the final sdjustments. This is one of the nicest things about racing in the Northern Ohio Legends Series. One racer has trouble and people help out. That is one of the things that attracted me to the series in the first place.
In the heat, I learned what it is like to have real brakes, and looped the car going into turn one on lap 2. Back on the track, I finished 7th.
Feature action saw Bob Petry involved another wild airborne crash on lap 1, but the race then went green for the remainder of the 25 laps. I ended up 14th, and was gradually getting faster as the race went on.
Having never driven Midvale before, I was very pleased with our run in the feature. We accomplished what we set out to do tonight - get some seat time and bring the car back in one piece - and that gives us a nice little wave to ride during the winter. Midvale is a very nice facility, the people are friendly and the track is an absolute blast to drive!
Just a few details remain, and we will be ready for the Fall Classic at Midvale Speedway on September 15th. Many thanks to Legends racer Dave Spotton, who helped get the car ready and loaned us his Midvale gears, and to Dennis and Jason Knox for getting the chassis in order.
Midvale Speedway is a 3/10-mile semi-banked paved oval located just south of New Philadelphia, OH. For more information, go to www.midvalespeedway.com .
